(Carolann shares her thoughts on the township...)
Today we visited Langa Township, where the colored people of South Africa live. It was sad, enlightening and heart warming. We walked among the shanties, visited a pre-school, and looked into a hostel where whole families live in a single room. We visited a soup kitchen where they are attempting to start a communal garden and lastly ate lunch at Sheila's where we sampled a variety of South African dishes while being serenaded by a marimba band. There was a group of students from New York also with us. It was my favorite day of the trip. I feel I really met the people of South Africa. Our guides, Samantha & Nelson were superb. Packing now for our trip to Johannesburg tomorrow. Our safari lies ahead.
