Cape Town, Safari, Rovos Rail and Vic Falls - "It was magical!"

(We love hearing from our travelers both during after their adventures with us. Gail and Jerry Klink granted us permission to share this note...)

Dear Judy,

It was magical! We received more than we were promised. Accommodations were great. Dunkeld and Seasons Spa were perfect. Burgundy was adequate, but frankly, we did nothing but sleep there because the Cape Town week was so full. And our guide, Kobus, added even more activities to our already full agenda.

What a treat to have a personal guide for a week for only four travelers! No waiting for large groups; no climbing on and off big buses; no crowding for meals! Kobus took such good care of us. It was also a treat to be able to order whatever we wanted off of real menus in upscale restaurants. I bought a Cape Town "Passport" at a souvenir shop, and by the end of the week, we had done everything in it and more!

Our guidefor Safari week, Bakkies, was equally as good and attentive. While we were in the hotels, even before our week officially began, he took care of us, and did everything he could to make us happy. Meals in the hotels, as well as outside were quite good. Again, having a personal guide for five people was a pleasure. We couldn't decide whether we liked Seasons or Dunkeld best. Seasons had the marvelous pools; Dunkeld had the charm. The parties we had at both places were an added treat. Even a birthday cake for Jerry!

Kapama River Lodge was beautiful. Food at Kapama was also excellent, plentiful, and exotic. Between game drives, the amazing pool overlooking the animal watering hole was a delight. Our room, with its balcony to view the animals, was first class. The game drives were spectacular. Our guide and tracker were very adept at finding animals, and we saw the Big Five. We saw so many of the other animals that we became complacent when it was only a zebra or a giraffe who crossed our path! Jerry celebrated his 78th birthday on an elephant back safari.

Thank you for arranging the Rovos Rail journey for us. We have cruised over 500 days on Holland America, and honestly have to say Rovos Rail beats cruise ships for class! Rohan Vos, the owner, greeted us at their private station in Pretoria. He stood on the platform and waved goodbye to us. Three days later, he stood at the station in Cape Town and waved hello. Food and service were exquisite; drinks flowed freely; the decor was like a step back in time to a glorious and elegant era. Delicious four course meals were perfectly prepared, presented, and served. We were four hours late coming into Cape Town, so they fed us an extra dinner. Somehow they managed to pull off an additional four course meal. We loved dress requirements for dinner, and the no TV, no internet, no cell phones, no children policies. Had there been children on board, they would have eaten an hour earlier; there were none, and we didn't miss them! They even stocked our frig with whatever we wanted, and did our laundry at no extra charge. And they gave Jerry a birthday present, even 'though his birthday had been three days earlier.

Thank you for arranging our hotel in Cape Town for the five days between the train ride and joining the Cape Town tour. It was quite nice, and in a decent part of town. British friends of ours who were also vacationing there met us each day. The last day, we were alone and could walk to a variety of places before Kobus picked us up to go to Burgundy Estates.

What can I say about Victoria Falls? We still can't believe we were there. Once again, the lodge and the food were first class. I think we would have stayed in a pup tent and eaten hot dogs  just to see the falls!

We are so pleased with our experience. We will stop in next winter when we are in Sarasota and thank you again personally. You may quote any of this e-mail if you like.

Thanks again for the trip of a lifetime. We think it was better than our world cruise!
